AI-Generated Phishing Emails are becoming more sophisticated

The Rise of AI-Generated Phishing Emails and How to Stay Safe

Traditionally, phishing emails were relatively easy to identify due to their poor grammar, spelling errors, and generic content. However, with the use of AI, phishing emails can now mimic the writing style of a human, making it more difficult to differentiate between a genuine email and a phishing email.

These AI-generated phishing emails can be highly targeted, meaning that they are specifically designed to trick you into giving away your personal information or clicking on a malicious link. They may appear to be from a trusted source, such as your bank, a supplier, or a colleague, but in reality, they are designed to steal your sensitive data or install malware on your computer.

Best Practices to Safeguard Against Phishing

  1. Stop. Think. Click It takes just a few moments to verify what you are about to open.
  2. Scrutinize Email Addresses: Always double-check the sender’s address. A trusted name might mask a suspicious address.
  3. Look for Subtle Errors: While AI-generated content can be convincing, it’s not infallible. Grammatical mistakes or awkward phrasing can still seep through
  4. Beware of Unsolicited Attachments: If you weren’t expecting a Document or Link, be wary, even if the sender seems known.
  5. Verify Unexpected Requests: If a colleague or service provider suddenly asks for confidential information over email, double-check with them directly via phone or in person.
  6. Update Regularly: Ensure your computer’s security software is current. Regular updates often fix vulnerabilities that attackers exploit. Your IT Support Service provider can do this if you are unsure how to check.
